Emergency Response
Emergency Responders provide the residents of Bexar County ESD No.2 with fire suppression and protection, emergency rescue capabilities, and emergency medical first responder services. The ISO Rating of ESD 2 is a 1. A standard staffing of four firefighters respond on each fire engine and aerial ladder truck company as well as two firefighters/medics on each ambulance. There are 5 fire stations located strategically throughout the district. These fire stations house 3 fire engines, 1 platform (ladder), 1 tiller, 3 rescue squads, 2 brush trucks, 1 Tender, 7 Medic Units and other emergency vehicles and reserve firefighting apparatus.
Emergency Medical Care
Bexar County 2 Fire Department provides Emergency Medical Care with Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Transport Services. When responding to medical emergencies, responders use the same equipment and abide by the same standards in our fire apparatus as the transporting ambulance. All of our members are certified emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Approximately 65% of our 140 member staff are certified at a higher level certification such as EMT-Advanced and EMT-Paramedic.
Special Operations
The Special Operations Division is a part of the Emergency Response at Bexar County 2 Fire Department. All personnel under Special Operations are certified firefighters and and receive specialized training in HazMat, Swift Water, Wildland or Search and Rescue. These sections provide specialized responses to hazardous materials spills, all water emergencies; including standing or swift, major disaster responses; manmade or natural, and weapons of mass destruction responses providing decontamination and initial medical treatment.
